Terms of Use

USER RESPONSIBILITIES

While Polk County Bank and its service providers continuously evaluate and modify online safeguards to provide the latest protections, users of the online banking system also have responsibility to safeguard information that could lead to the compromising of their accounts. We recommend the following:

Use the latest 128-bit encryption version of either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Our site is best viewed and most secure when either of these two browsers are used. It is also a good practice to continuously update your browser to the latest version available.

Keep your Security Code confidential. Unauthorized knowledge of your User ID and Security Code is perhaps the biggest threat to your account security. You must follow our parameters when establishing a Security Code. Your code should be something that is not easily guessed. We strongly recommend you change your code frequently. If you suspect someone has gained knowledge of your code, change it immediately. Be sure others are not watching you enter information on the keyboard when using the system.

Never leave your computer unattended while logged on to the online banking system. Leaving a computer logged onto your banking accounts makes it easy for someone to use the computer for unauthorized activity.

Click "exit" or "log off" when you are finished using the system to properly end your session. If you simply go to a new web site by typing in a URL or using a bookmark, your computer may remained logged onto the site and someone may be able to access your account by simply clicking the back button. Exiting or logging off ends the session and no further transactions can be processed until you log on to the system again. The step of making sure you are logged out of the system before leaving the computer is extremely important if you are using a public computer, such as one at a public library, where many others will have access to the computer.
Close your browser when you are finished, to ensure that others cannot view any account information displayed on your computer.

Keep your computer free of viruses. Use virus protection software to routinely check for a virus on your computer. Keep your anti-virus software up to date. Never allow a virus to remain on your computer while accessing the online banking system. Some viruses or malicious software can harvest User ID and Security Codes and report them back to third parties for unlawful use. Report all crimes to law enforcement officials immediately.

Be aware of "phishing" and always be extremely wary of entering sensitive personal information online. Online criminals often try to trick internet users into entering sensitive information such as Social Security Numbers or User ID and Security Codes by posing as familiar legitimate sites.

A common approach is to send e-mail claiming security breaches or other emergencies and urging the recipient to click a link in the e-mail to deal with the emergency. The link takes the users to a web page that looks identical to the legitimate site. The site is actually a counterfeit and used to try and trick users into entering their User ID and Security Code to correct the alleged problem.

This is known as "spoofing" or "phishing" and is simply a way to get you to enter your User ID and Security Code, which is then sent to third parties for criminal use. Polk County Bank will NEVER ask you for our User ID and Security Code via e-mail. To access the bank site, you should always type the bank's URL or use your browser's bookmarks. NEVER click to our site from an e-mail alert that allegedly comes from the bank. If you ever have any question as to the source of an e-mail that is purportedly from the bank, please call us to verify.

If you ever think your account may be or has been accessed by an unauthorized party, please contact the bank immediately.

Following these safety guidelines will help insure your interaction with the online banking system will be completely secure and confidential. If you have any questions about this or any other bank policy, please call or visit one of our locations.
